ISO Image Mounter: PowerISO
PowerISO is a powerful CD/DVD image file processing tool, which allows
you to open, extract, create, edit, compress, encrypt, split and
convert ISO files;
then mount these files as internal virtual drives.
Why do I recommend this?
You probably have no clue such a utility exists - but once you use it you may wonder how you ever got along without it. Let me just explain a few of the uses I make of it:
- Have you ever had Windows pop open that "Please Insert your Windows XP Professional Disk" message and wished you could continue without handling a real CD? Well, I solved that problem by keeping a compressed .DAA image of my WinXP CD in my drivers folder. It is 551MB, but with 60GB to work with I can afford the space. Now anytime I need a WinXP CD mounted, I can just ask PowerISO to mount this image as a virtual (aka fake) CD-ROM drive such as J: or M:. The Windows task asking for the CD is 100% satisfied and I can continue without needed to either dig out or carry my Windows CD with me.
- Ever wanted to backup a software product without making 10 CDs? PowerISO can create a compressed image of each CD and very likely the entire collection will fit on a single data DVD.
- Are you tired - and a bit concerned - about shuffling your game CDs to keep the correct one in the CD drive? Of course you can risk online no-CD hacks and hope they don't include viruses or trojans. But I've found PowerISO creates an image of the game CD and then can virtually mount it as required. It fools all known games in existence - for sure it fools all of the games I have tried it with. Plus it doesn't tie up your real CD drive for the game.
- Of course, PowerISO also burns .ISO images onto CDs expertly and with far less fanfare and effort than using your CD burning applications that came with your CD burner.
